One of the most stunning places to see in Pakistan is the Shandur Lake. Located in the Khyber Pakhtun Khwa province of Pakistan, Shandur Lake is situated at an impressive height of 12,200 ft (3,598 metres). above the sea level. Shandur Top is the plateau where this lake can be found. This plateau is blessed with great natural beauty and is located in the Ghizer district of Gilgit-Baltistan. Due to its great height it is known as the "Roof of the World."
The first view of Shandur Lake can steal everyone's breath. The crystal clear waters of the lake reflect the snowy peaked mountains and the blue sky. The mountains standing tall and proud around the lake complete the image.
Shandur Pass provides a route between Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Shandur is particularly famous for the annual polo festival that has been held in the area since 1936. The polo stadium is the highest polo ground in the world at the height of 3700 m. The weather is harsh and cold in winters so the best time to go there is the mid-summer. The whole area is rich in culture and the tourists can buy handmade artefacts, jewellery and embroidered shawls from the nearby towns.
