Places to Go

Naltar is a wonderful valley just about 2 hrs drive from Gilgit in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Naltar is famous for its colorful lakes. There are three lakes in the Naltar valley known as 'Bashkiri Lakes' at a distance of 13 kilometers (08 mi) from Naltar Bala. Naltar lake is also named as Seven Colours Lake (satrangi jheel).

From Upper Naltar it's a beautiful 12km hike on a bad jeep road up to Naltar Lake and dense pine forests. No guide is necessary. Beyond this are more pastures.

Directions

There are three lakes in the Naltar valley known as 'Bashkiri Lakes' at a distance of 13 kilometers (08 mi) from Naltar Bala. Trekking on an easy trail and crossing a forest and shepherds settlements en route is a hidden paradise known as, Naltar Lake, a crystal clear emerald green lake.

The road from village to the lakes is non-metallic and narrow alongside a stream throughout this road coming from the mountains. In winter it is almost impossible to reach the lake through any vehicle due to the snow (10 to 15 feet high) on the road.
